PlanB One-Step

  • Can be used up to 3 days after unprotected sex

    • Works best as soon as possible after unprotected

  • A large dose of levonorgestrel will prevent ovulation

  • EC cannot cause an abortion

  • Available over the counter at most pharmacies

    • Costs between $40 and $50

  • NOT A REPLACEMENT FOR REGULAR BIRTH CONTROL!

  • EC cannot cause an abortion

  • Only available by prescription

    • Costs around $67

  • Not a backup for missing your birth control pills/patch/ring

  • Works within 5 days of unprotected sex

  • Prevents sperm from reaching eggs and prevents implantation

  • EC cannot cause an abortion

  • Must be inserted by a health care provider

  • Long-acting contraceptive, good for up to 10 years

  • <1% failure rate

  • The most effective form of emergency contraceptive
